Bang the Drum Slowly

A pro baseball team from New York and two of its players are the subjects of this article. Henry Wiggen is the team's great pitcher, while Bruce Pearson is a regular catcher who isn't one of the team's stars but is a good buddy to all of his teammates. Bruce finds that he is terminally ill during the off-season, and Henry, his sole genuine friend, vows to be there for him for his final season with the club. Throughout the season, Henry and his teammates struggle to cope with Bruce's imminent sickness while also wanting to make his final year memorable.
