The Bellwether

In the eyes of the general public, Joanne is nothing more than the proprietor of a book store; yet, the Conspiracy is aware of her true identity. She should be avoided. She is a reliable indicator since she is an unassuming leader who is well on her way to being her complete self. They find out that Joanne is something so much more than even she ever realized when they kidnap her in order to break her so that they may force her to conform. The thriller Joanne is a feminist work that takes place in a single room and focuses on a single character. It is a modern rite of passage story that the majority of women have to go through in order to become entire human beings: How does one be themselves in the face of vast amounts of anti-feminism and hatred? (both overt and institutionalized). It is also the first film ever made that stars a woman and is considered to be a "one-person film," which refers to a movie with only one character appearing on screen.
