The Ref

Caroline and Lloyd are a couple constantly at each other's throats, masters in crafting barbs at another's expense. Indeedthey have been so enthusiastic about belittling each other that they stop -- not at all gunpoint. The gunman is Gus, a thief on the run from law enforcement, who kidnaps the couple as a insurance plan, intending to make use of their home as a hideout. However, their incessant bickering shows significantly a lot more than Gus bargained for, pushing him into the role of peacemaker -- with regard to his sanity. To make matters worse he discovers he has obtained the couple hostage at night in their big Christmas party, and the guests are already on the way. Not needing to leave Lloyd and Caroline unattended, Gus opts to attend the party, pretending to be the couple's marriage counselor. This naturally contributes to a collection of comic confusions, as the hostage tragedy and tensions head to their conclusion.
